We are winding down in good Blighty for our four-day Easter weekend, and cheap_as_chips is taking a break until Monday.

However, never fear, I'm leaving you with a whole raft of Cockney Rhyming Slang to be getting on with.

Believe it or not, they are all absolutely genuine!

Usage = I just got a new whistle for work

Usage = She’s always telling porkies

Usage = Everything’s going a bit Pete Tong!

Britney Spears beers
Usage = Coming down the pub for a few Britneys?

Richard the Third bird (as in girlfriend)
Usage = Tony’s got a new Richard!

Apple Fritter bitter, pint of

Aristotle bottle

Kingdom Come bum

Arthur Ashe cash
Usage = I’m running short of arthurs

Winona Ryder cider
Usage = Fancy a pint of winona?

Septic tank Yank (!)

Are you really trying to tell me they think of random rhyming words and replace real words just for the hell of it, and suddenly it's part of the language? I love the British! ::tickles the entire population:: Come on! Talk for me! Love your accent!

I'm so enjoying being a member of cheap as chips, BTW. Thanks for doing it. ::gives you even more tickles::

Oh yes, as a nation we are that daft!
It's amazing how quickly the new slang is accepted.
I blame yoof tv - the country went to pot after the BBC allowed regional accents on the TV. HEE.

I really would not be thinking girlfriend here. This one must show up in comedy, surely.


There is also another, ruder, meaning for Richard the Third.
Think of the British love of toilet humour and you'll be there!
